Welcome To Rugged Point Lodge
Kyuquot Sound’s Finest Lodge
Rugged Point Lodge is located in Kyuquot Sound on the north west coast of Vancouver Island in the protected little town of Walter’s Cove. Newly built in the winter of 2011, Rugged Point Lodge is a beautiful fifteen guest fishing lodge with six private guest rooms all with a private washrooms and showers. The lodge features a large main room with a dining area, bar area, wood stove and seating area all surrounded by large ocean view decks. Outside the lodge we have a small gift shop to purchase a souvenir, t-shirt or bring home a gift for your loved ones.
We are equipped with high speed wifi and a land line if needed. Our 6 guest rooms are located on a separate wing from the main lodge, the top three rooms sleep two guests with either twin beds or a king bed for couples, the downstairs three rooms are set up with one twin and one bunk which can easily sleep a group of three.
All of our rooms are spacious and have private bathrooms and decks. We have had nothing but compliments about the comfort of these rooms with their plush mattresses and sheets.

Message from our Chef:
For me, there is no better environment than this to remind me of why I love being a chef. Because to me, cooking is all about building relationships, and my roll on the Rugged Point team is to provide you with a five star culinary experience. I take pride in educating about food, techniques, and don’t hold onto recipes, so if you want them, I will show you. And if you want to join me in the kitchen, don’t be shy; I will throw an apron on you. You will not only catch amazing fish but also learn how to cook it. Whether it be fileting, smoking, making sushi, or other dishes I do, I love to entertain, and what better way to do so in such a stunning environment with world-class fishing and guides.
*If by chance you don’t want to go fishing, or, if your spouse wants to join and only cook, well, then this can also be a culinary adventure for foodies. This upcoming season at Rugged Point Lodge I will be offering full afternoon culinary classes, learn a little bit about food, but mostly, learn the subtle and painless art of executing a perfect dinner party. I will show you timing, plate presentation, organization, and the general tales of ordinary kitchen madness. – Chef Matthew
Safe and Modern Dock
Next to our lodge is our dock with a nice aluminum ramp and 5 ft. wide walkway down to where all of our boats and fish care are located. Grab a seat at the end of the night and watch the sunset from our dock!
We are located on a small island with some nice walking paths, one leads to outside beach which is a must do to check out the giant trees and rugged west coast beach or head out after dinner for a bon fire.
Walter’s Island also has a small convenience store and post office, a few houses mostly owned as summer getaway cabins and a restaurant – coffee shop with the best Latte’s in town!
By Boat or Plane
Access to the lodge is either by boat or plane. Most of our guests drive to Fair Harbour, a small parking lot/fuel station 14 miles up the inlet where we pick you up by boat at 1:30pm on your arrival day. Other options of getting here include a shuttle from the Comox Airport or a float plane charter from Campbell River or Vancouver.
