Salmon, Halibut and Tuna fishing from Rugged Point Lodge couldn’t be better!

Our saltwater fishing season begins in May and ends the first week in September. The salmon fishing in the spring and summer is fantastic, as the salmon runs from the Columbia River system are feeding in the surrounding waters on their way south.

Halibut fishing is also excellent all season. The untouched waters located in Kyuquot Sound are unique and are very productive with consistent catches of 35 to 60 pound Halibut all season.

Our Albacore Tuna fishery starts in the third week of August until the third week of September.  We are very close to the tuna fishing grounds, South Brooks Bouy is only 27 miles from Rugged Point Lodge!

Only a few select places on the west coast of BC support a fishery like Kyuquot Sound.

With the numerous, abundant runs of salmon that pass through this area from May to September, there are always salmon in Kyuquot Sound! Come see for yourself!

Halibut fishing in Kyuquot sound is very productive,  you can expect to catch your limit.  We are very selective in the halibut that we keep, the ones we try and keep are generally  35-75 pounds.

The Right Boats

Our fleet consist of four 23ft Grady White Gulfstream’s all equipped with top notch electronics and gear.

These boats are big, comfortable and safe;  perfect for fishing on the west coast.  These boats have a 10ft. wide beam and from motor to bow are approx. 27 ft long.

All of our boats are run by 300 hp Yamaha four stroke engines (or dually 150’s) set up with a kicker for trolling and stern steering for easy manuvering on the fishing grounds.

Each boat has Lowrance electronics (Sonar, radar and GPS) and Icom VHF radios to keep in touch with each other and the lodge.   Matt’s boat has a satellite phone in case of emergencies.   Our boats are transport Canada approved and all of our guides have their certificates.

Top Gear

Our fishing gear is all top of the line. We have rod and reel combo’s for each of our target species.

SALMON – Our salmon rods are 10ft 6 medium weight rods with MR3 Islander mooching reels.  We also have lighter rods for some fun straight anchovies with no inline flasher.

HALIBUT – Halibut and Lingcod rods are 6ft 6 Penn Carnage with Penn International 2-speed reels.

TUNA – Our Tuna rods and reels are specifically matched for Albacore Tuna, the reels we use are a small size 3500 (salmon size) open face hyper speed 7-1 Daiwa and they are matched to a 6ft 6 twenty – eighty pound rod.
